Vespa Alert™ allows citizens to submit useful information about the Asian hornet: a visible or suspected nest, an individual observed in flight, or a trap monitored over time.

Nest report
  • Use when a nest is visible or strongly suspected.
  • Photo and location are essential.
  • The goal is to follow a specific case.
Flight observation
  • Use when an Asian hornet is observed moving in flight.
  • The flight direction may indicate an activity axis.
  • Several converging directions can help target a search area.
Trap declaration
  • Allows a trap to be located and monitoring records to be entered.
  • Contributes to interpreting the observed pressure.
  • Complements nest and flight data.

Flight direction can help identify an area where a nest could be searched for.

From the observation point to a potential area

When an Asian hornet is observed in flight, the position alone is already useful. But if the observer also indicates the direction taken by the individual, this information becomes a movement clue.

A single observation is never enough to locate a nest. However, several nearby observations, with consistent or converging directions, can help field actors prioritise a search area.

Theoretical search area, not a confirmed nest location.
Cones, directions and activity areas are a decision-support tool. They never replace field verification and must not be interpreted as a confirmed nest location.

Trapping

Trap declaration and monitoring

A participatory tool to better understand the presence of the Asian hornet.

Vespa Alert™ also allows citizens to declare a trap and enter regular monitoring records. These data contribute to a better understanding of the presence and evolution of the Asian hornet in the territory.
